Kelly Rowland Here I Am Album Review

The very sexy Kelly Rowland dropped her third studio album Here I Am on July 27th after ridding a wave of success thanks to the single Motivation that featured Lil Wayne.
Kelly Rowland whose real name is Kelendria Trene Rowland gave fans only 10 songs where she seriously attempted to be sexy, grown and overly independent using sensual and big beats that were put together by famous heads such as C. “Tricky” Stewart, David Guetta and RedOne.
Her attempts to be sexy was a success thanks to songs like “Motivation” where her sassy voice blends well with the minimal hip/hop beat, the same goes for “Lay It on Me” where Miss Rowland never sounded more confident and bold in her entire life.
Too bad the same can not be said for her idea of being another pop/techno queen on the LP – that concept went no where mainly because of the beats were overpowering her vocals, while the lyrics were flat and too repetitive.
For example “I’m Dat Chick” that was supposed to be a club friendly song – but turned out to be a Rihanna-esque track that lacks personality and was unable to captivate our interest due to the killer production behind.
While Kelly Rowland deserves an A for the effort she put in this CD, the risks that she took to bring us new sounds and show another side of her musical character, there are too many flaws and missed opportunities to consider Here I Am as a classic CD.
Rowland was unable to provide us with two or three decent songs, but she was unable to reveal her true musical colors, she still fades in the Rihanna/Beyonce/Katy Perry mass due to her lack of originality and personality in her choices.
The former Destiny’s Child failed to have any kind of link between the first and last song – the selection was poorly done which resulted in a fast food CD about everything which features everyone and the singer being often flat in her own domain.
